Nova Middle School has a Unified Dress Code


All Nova Middle School students are required to follow the mandatory unified dress code policy. Students need to conform to the UDC during all regular school days, including Early Release and Flex Days. Students involved in school sponsored clubs/activities or sports must wear appropriate unified dress code attire or a school issued uniform on game/competition days only.


Clothing:
Pants/Shorts/Skirts/Skorts - Cotton twill “docker style” in hunter green, yellow/gold, black, white, red, navy blue, gray or khaki.


Shirts - Collared “polo style” in hunter green, yellow/gold, black, white, red, navy blue, gray, and khaki. Dickie style shirts that button down the front MUST remain buttoned throughout the day and must adhere to the appropriate colors. Shirts may not be worn around the shoulders.


Jackets - Jackets must be a solid approved color. Jackets must be worn with an approved uniform shirt beneath. Students are permitted to wear solid-color vests or cardigan sweaters in approved colors, with appropriate uniform shirt.


Shoes - Students must wear shoes that conform to the Secondary Code of Student Conduct. Footwear traditionally designed as sleepwear or beachwear may not be worn. These include bedroom slippers, zoris, and flip-flops.


Important Information


1. Undershirts may not hang beyond or below the uniform shirt. Undergarments that do not fit properly beneath the uniform shirt will be confiscated.
2. NOT ALLOWED: Pants that are knit/lycra, spandex, parachute, athletic, fleece, denim material of any type or color, hip huggers, or lowriders. Sweat pants or sweat suits. Shorts/skorts/skirts that are above mid thigh as described in the Secondary Code of Student Conduct, Section III are not allowed.
3. Sleeveless shirts and shirts without collars are not allowed.
4. Clothing which is too tight or oversized does not conform to the Unified Dress Code.
5. Tops that are cut too low in the front are not permitted.
6. Tops must be long enough to cover the complete mid section when arms are held up overhead.
7. Tank tops, tube tops, etc. that show beneath the uniform shirt are not permitted.
8. Bottoms may not have any writing across them.
9. Also inappropriate, chains, spikes, headbands, bandanas, long dangling belts, gang paraphernalia; tattered clothing (clothing must be hemmed); midriffs; unbuckled pants; long dangling earrings, curlers, shower caps, hats or caps; exaggerated distracting hair styles and hair colors; suspenders, slogans, emblems, motifs, stripes, or patterns in clothing.


PTSA Sells Spirit Shirts
Nova Middle's PTSA will be selling Nova “Spirit Shirts” during the schedule pickup day on August 10, 2006 from 11:00 am - 5:00 pm in the cafeteria. These Spirit Shirts may be worn any day. Spirit shirts are also sold from 9:00 to 9:30 am in the admin building. Spirit shirts are required attire for all field trips.


Consequences for non-compliance to UDC Policy
1. Warning, information is recorded in the school's discipline database
2. After-School Detention, 4:30 - 5:30, parents arrange pickup; Parents contacted
3. Internal Suspension - 1 Day; Parents contacted
4. Internal/External Suspension - 1 to 2 Days for Defiance; Parents contacted

Purchasing Information
There are many local stores that carry standard uniforms for students. Stores such as Target, Walmart, Pennys, Gap, Dickies, Sears, Old Navy, Kmart and Ibiley School Uniforms generally have appropriate clothing in stock. Choosing the right color, the right fit, and the right style for your child(ren) will enable them to stay in compliance. Parental support is extremely important to help Nova Middle remain a safe and orderly school. Thank you for your assistance!
