The School Advisory Council (SAC) is a governing body made up of parents, community members, teachers, staff members, and students. The primary objective of the School Advisory Council is to help identify school needs and recommend programs of action. SAC sets goals based on the students' achievements and expectations.Through monthly meetings, SAC members monitor the implementation of the School Improvement Plan (SIP) and discuss other important topics relevant to student academic performance. The School Improvement Plan (SIP) is the primary objective for all Broward Schools, to facilitate this process, every school has a SAC which studies the school's track record and comes up with an annual plan to improve education in vital areas such as: student achievement, curriculum, safety and discipline. Membership is based on specific guidelines provided by the Florida Department of Education (DOE). The school's principal, BTU representative, and SAF Chair are automatically appointed to SAC membership. Other members follow an election process by their peers. Students elect students; teacher elect teachers; non-instructional elect non-instructional members and parents elect parents. The majority of members may not be employed by the school. The SIP is written throughout the school year, submitted in July to the Area Office, modified in August and sent for approval to our School Board. Each September, Nova Middle elects and welcomes new members from all stakeholder groups. If you would like to be a part of this important advisory group, please contact our PTSA President, Mercedes Gunst for information regarding the upcoming elections. |
