Mission Statement

The Mission of the Nova Center is to train pre-service and experienced educators to teach our culturally diverse student population to be literate, productive citizens, using a seamless K-12 curriculum, in collaboration with parents, the community , and partners in higher education.

Vision

The Nova Center will become a K-12 national model for literacy by training pre-service and experienced educators, in a diverse learning community which will result in maximum student achievement.

The five strategic goals described below will help the Nova Center achieve the new vision and mission:

  1. Staff Development Action Plan - Research shows that "focused" staff development is necessary for student achievement. The focus of Nova Center's staff development will be literacy, as the following plan shows.
  2. Administrative Practices in Support of Literacy - A school administrator is an instructional leader who promotes the success of all children. The administrators of Nova Middle School support the quest for student literacy.
  3. High Quality Instruction is a Dynamic System/Consistent Integration of Reading Strategies in all Content Areas - Data shows that teachers who consistently integrate reading strategies into their various subject areas increase student achievement.
  4. Literacy Text Materials and Resources - Research has shown that students who have access to a wide range of high quality materials and resources are higher achievers.
  5. Literacy Articulation and Collaboration - Effective communication, planning, and collaboration, including teachers, parents, partners, and students, work together in democratic, reflective communities. This includes professional conversations, sharing learning goals, and creating seamless, systemic curriculum.
